PROFILE OF TEAM RAINBOW
The Team comprises of 20
skaters ranging between the ages of 12 and 19 who are all currently scholars.
The Team falls under the auspice of The South African Figure Skating Association
and is coached by Dantin Broodryk. We train at the only rink in Cape Town, the
Ice Station in the GrandWest Casino. Due to the limited ice time available we
skate at any available time, usually late evenings and early mornings. Within
this limited ice-time we have to learn two programmes, one short and the other
called a free programme, where we have the opportunity to show off our moves and
steps. Along with our limited on-ice times, we have off-ice where we have to
concentrate on the detail of the choreography of our programmes. Apart from this
time spent on Team Rainbow, each individual skater is expected to practice their
technical skills as all the skaters are required to achieve the same technical
skill level in order to skate in the Team.
We are currently practicing for
the National Ice-skating Championships to be held at the Festival Mall, Kempton
Park from 30 September to 3 October 2007 where we will be competing to be
selected to represent South Africa internationally.
