The biggest
Ladies bash in Cape Town!
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY
Come and support our SA ladies as they fight tooth and nail for
total ice domination and the world championship crown.
This round robin competition, a first for Cape Town, will be
held at the headquarters of Western Province Ice Hockey
Association, “The Ice Station”, GrandWest Casino and
Entertainment World from the 3rd till the 9th of March 2005
featuring national teams from Australia, Belgium, Great Britain,
Hungary, Slovenia and, of course, South Africa.
Ice Hockey, the fastest and toughest team sport on any planet,
is played here weekly at club and provincial level across all
age groups and Western Province regularly provides players of
top quality for the national teams. The SA u18 boys, three of
whom are from WP, won silver medals in Bulgaria last year.
True to form, 8 of our WP ladies, Lara von Rahden, Tracy Woolf,
Lindy van Driel, Sarah Booysen, Jadi-Leigh Wessels, Janie
Joshua, Heather Long and Lisa Kaestner are included in the South
African team for the feature game on the evening of the 3rd of
March. This is expected to be an explosive encounter against our
old archenemies in virtually every sport, Australia. Match time
will be at 19:30 and will end at 21:30.
It is hoped the general public will unwrap those SA flags they
are keeping for 2010 and come out in full force to support our
brave Ice Queens. Entrance to the “Ice Station” is absolutely
FREE FOR ALL THE GAMES throughout the tournament and in return
they are guaranteed great entertainment.
